On 14 October 2025 the UAE announced a major expansion of its Golden Visa scheme: holders of the 10‑year residence permit will now receive overseas consular services previously reserved for Emirati nationals. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that foreign residents on the visa will be included in official emergency and evacuation plans, have access to a dedicated crisis hotline, be able to obtain a temporary travel document if a passport is lost abroad and benefit from repatriation services .
Highlights:
• 24/7 emergency assistance: Golden Visa holders will be integrated into the UAE’s evacuation and crisis‑response plans and can call a designated hotline for help during international crises .
• Return document for lost passports: If a visa holder loses or damages their passport overseas, they can secure a document allowing them to return to the UAE .
• Repatriation and burial support: The programme includes coordination for the return of remains and assistance with burial arrangements in the UAE .
• Family inclusion: The services extend to dependants, ensuring entire families receive support while travelling.
Legal experts have hailed the move as “exceptional,” saying it sets a new benchmark for the region. Hassan El Hais, a legal consultant, said the change will give expatriates the best level of protection, boost trust and encourage them to invest and contribute to UAE society.
